Overview
As a Chinese Australian who have moved to Australia, I have heard numerous of stories from my Asian peers about racism and discrimination in schools and workplaces. As I enter my honors year at UNSW, I've been presented with an opportunity to create a project addressing a social issue in Australia. Being reminded of all the stories told by my peers, I decided to design something responding to the 'Bamboo Ceiling', a phenomenon impeding Asians in climbing the corporate ladder due to discrimination and Confucian cultural values.
The result is a digital mentorship toolkit named ‘Break the Bamboo’, designed specifically for young Chinese-Australian university students to tackle the bamboo ceiling in Australia through mentorship.
